To comment on “Mayoral candidates cop grilling on floods”, 02/03 --The winners of the Council elections must ignore the advice of the green-left’s “experts” on all matters related to weather, including flooding, (“Mayoral candidates cop grilling on floods”, 02/03).
In 1990, those experts said that the seas would rise two metres by 2010, and in 2007 that what rains fell wouldn’t cause our rivers to run.
If past Councils had followed their advice, Cairns would have a Dutch-style dyke to keep the rising seas out, and wouldn’t have bothered clearing out storm drains. Since it’s now obvious to everyone that green-left “experts’” assertions about future weather are pure speculation and that floods will continue to be part of life in the Wet Tropics, surely the most obvious course of action is to dredge the Barron River to allow a greater volume of water to pass down it before it tops its banks. Just watch the green-left howl in protest at that proposal, because their narrative relies on “climate disasters” to point to.
