Re: Mossman on the edge
The Editor The Cairns Post
Mossman Mill is designed to produce crystal sugar and it does so perfectly well, (Mossman on the edge, 28/02).
The farmers who supply it are very good at producing sugar cane, which is the ideal crop for land in that area.
There is no shortage of demand for crystal sugar; it’s in a very high proportion of supermarket products. Sugar’s commodity market price is currently quite high.
The Mossman Mills’s problems have been triggered by managers seeking to “diversify” into biofuels for which there is no established market.
Those managers reportedly tried to have the government create a mandated market, a socialist idea that has never worked and which seems to have failed yet again.
The Labor government has shown little interest in the plight of Mossman and its cane-growing community. Labor’s local MP’s office reportedly said she had “no interest” in the matter.
Labor simply doesn’t care if a food growing community is destroyed by poor management decisions taken on the back of mistaken belief in Labor’s climate and energy myths.

Re: Cost blowout at drug centre
The Editor The Cairns Post
The artist’s impressions of the proposed Cairns Youth Alcohol and Other Drugs Treatment Centre appear to show a structure about three times the size of a new four-bedroom home, (Cost blowout at drug centre, 28/02).
A reasonable person would expect such a structure to cost somewhere around $2m.
But we’re told the 2020 quote was $11.5m and that’s now blown out to $19.3m, or almost ten times a reasonable person’s expectation.
This is just one small example of Labor’s absolute incompetence as custodians of our wealth: they seem utterly incapable of getting value for our money.
How can anything improve in Queensland while Labor remains in government?

And don't let those "youth" obtain cigarettes... that would be just too terrible to contemplate in the war for drugs.

Re: Upgrade to take 3 years
The Editor The Cairns Post
It’s ridiculous for a Wet Tropics tourism area to be suffering “level 4 water restrictions and interrupted supply to multiple localities,” (Upgrade to take 3 years, 28/02).
However, Douglas Shire’s water supply issues aren’t a new or emerging problem.
About twenty years ago, the Port Douglas fire truck was one of the few in Queensland that had to carry filters to prevent damage to the pump when tapping into town-water fire hydrants.
Councils are creations of state governments and can only do what the state government permits them to do.
The blame for the inaction on fixing the third-world water supply in Douglas Shire rests squarely with the Labor party.

Re: Court bombshell: vax mandates ‘unlawful’
The Editor The Cairns Post
“… Katarina Carroll’s direction for mandatory Covid-19 vaccination issued in December 2021 was unlawful under the Human Rights Act…,” (Court bombshell: vax mandates ‘unlawful’, 28/02).
“… a similar order by John Wakefield, the director general of Queensland Health’s equivalent vaccination policy, ‘is of no effect’ and Dr Wakefield be blocked from forcing paramedics to have the injection.”
The precedent established here gives me hope that the rule of law has not been completely extinguished in Queensland.
The state Labor and federal Liberal parties’ actions during the Covid years must be examined in every available forum to prevent a repeat of their disastrous, immoral, unethical, and illegal responses.
One Nation’s federal Senators have been trying to get a Covid Royal Commission started since early 2022.
Queensland Labor seems to have a lot to be ashamed of, and we’re going to need a significant number of state government One Nation MPs to expose the unadulterated truth.
