To comment on “ATO crackdown on small biz”, 14/02 --
It would be easier to accept the ATO “cracking down on small businesses” if two other aspects of the overall tax environment received equal consideration, (“ATO crackdown on small biz”, 14/02): big businesses paying their fare share and the government being less wasteful of the tax take.
There are several very large multinational corporations which artfully transfer profits to lower tax environments overseas to avoid paying tax in Australia. They’re all take and no give. By contrast, small businesses not only pay far more tax proportionally, but they employ far more Australian taxpayers, If the ATO wants to “crack down”, it should be starting with the big end of town.
While small businesses and ordinary Aussies have had to crank their belts ever tighter to cope with a long series of disastrous decisions by the Labor government and their Liberal predecessors, which became exponentially worse from early in 2020, the government itself is just as flagrantly wasteful as ever and squanders our wealth with relentless zeal. If the government is having trouble balancing its budget, it should begin with cutting its own waste.

Re: ‘Devil in the detail’ of on-country
The Editor The Cairns Post
“(Youth Justice Minister Di) Farmer said the current focus was to detain youth offenders in youth detention centres, ‘with more young people in detention than ever before’, (‘Devil in the detail’ of on-country, 14/02).
The community has two main expectations of governments when it comes to youth crime: being protected from the criminals, and preventing youths becoming criminals in the first place.
The Labor government has abjectly failed at both, and the LNP has a history of being Labor-lite.
One Nation has detailed plans to solve both problems.
We will introduce tougher penalties for repeat offenders in the interests of protecting the community as well as integrating proven redirection/intervention programs for at-risk youth.
More importantly, One Nation will address the root cause of the juvenile crime problem through our support for primary industries, which will slash multi-generational unemployment, strengthen families and social networks, and provide at-risk youths with the role models they presently lack.
