A war within ourselves.
Some of the most profound things I have ever read, came from people who knew and understood evil.
Like this...
“If only it were all so simple! If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds, and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?”
― Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago 1918–1956
There was infinity of time incalculable before us and for this brief second we exist on this planet.
Together, you and I shared this millisecond of existence.
And then forever follows once we are gone.
The human mind cannot process it and it is just something you and I know thinking about too hard will do us no good.
The war is within each one of us.
The war against submitting to evil.
This war can never be completely won while humans are alive.
Evil will be inside each of us and so extreme love and kindness.
That's where the war is.
When we personally win against evil, and specifically the evil inside our own hearts, our brief millisecond of human existence can make the world we briefly inhabit, go from a hell to paradise.
You see and appreciate all the beauty around you, from great stately river red gums to your best friend, an ever faithful and beautiful old mutt that follows you wherever you go, to a beautiful wife , who could be as ugly as sin if evil fills your heart, and you see her differently.
We are surrounded by people who have fought this war relatively successfully, but have never won it, to those who are fighting but losing, and those who have surrendered to evil completely.
It has been forever humans have existed, thus.
As that great Russian said, evil exists in all.
The battles become easier as you win those personal battles against the evil within.
That's where the war must be fought.
It will never be won, because you will never be able to stand down your defences.
In the true individualism that is Christianity, and the inherent responsibility that the individual must accept, we then understand that the problems this world is facing won't be fixed by any politician, not even TRUMP ( peace be upon him) but only in the defeat of sin and evil in every individual to the extent that it can effect change.
This is very much a religious war.
The evil inside the individuals opposed to Christianity have declared it and started it.
Every time hate and evil have risen to the surface, so does the light of goodness in varying degrees within individuals.
And it's message absolutely destroys the evil within as it is so much more an attractive alternative.
And oddly enough, once we as individuals have the upper hand against the evil within ourselves, then we naturally fight, and desire to fight with all we have, the evil in others.
Not the whole person, but the evil within them.
Hate the sin, love the sinner.
I will be heading back now, about to pack up from a magnificent holiday in South Australia, where I stayed in an 1880s built old stone cottage in the Clare Valley, driving my new (secondhand Ford Ranger)car I have just bought, departing from all my loved ones and great friends down here.
It's my true home.
I have revelled in, and been renewed by the beautiful days and the lack of humidity.
It's hard work in the humidity and overpopulated East coast of Queensland these days.
The empty roads are a blessing, and I'm closer to Adelaide here than I am to Brisbane at home.
It's my sacred ground, I'm back "on country" I believe the lefty term is, and no one can tell me otherwise.
But all of the country is sacred and beautiful and all our natural world is, is absolutely incredible.
The paradise that can be seen when the evil inside you gets a kick in the guts is absolutely astounding.
God bless you battlers!
