Re: Topping up water security funding pledges ‘critical’
The Editor The Cairns Post
Cairns Mayor Terry James’ op-ed (Topping up water security funding pledges ‘critical’, 27/01) would have been more compelling had he taken responsibility for the Council’s long-term failure to plan for growth.
You don’t need a committee to understand that an increasing population requires an expanding water supply.
With cheap and reliable electricity under attack by ideologically-driven state and federal governments, an expanded water supply that relies entirely on electricity is yet another planning failure.
Cairns is surrounded by hills with pristine catchments and suitable dam sites that can deliver water using only gravity, just like Copperlode.
If Cairns’ councillors were representing the will of Cairns people, they’d be fighting the state and federal governments’ anti-human regulations that prevent the development of a twin to Copperlode.
If Cairns people want reliable water into the future, they need to elect councillors who are prepared to fight the communist UNiparty in Brisbane and Canberra that blocks dam construction.

Peter,
Prospective Council electives could run under the banner - Save The Reef by Damming The Water and Save The Rainforests with Cairn's Coal Power.
