Russia was antifragile in February 2022. Anti-fragile is a concept introduced by Nassem Nicholas Taleb. A magnificent thinker who was right about everything until he finally came completely off the beam with the vaccine story. But consider that Russia's adaptation to NATO abuse was so effective that when Nato tried to attack Russian interests, with 60 000 troops ready to smash the breakaway Republics, from the point in which Russia finally intervened on an industrial scale, everything that Nato did to hurt Russia only made Russia stronger.
So Nato tries to stop energy exports, it hurts itself, drives energy prices upward, and weakens its own position vis a vis Russia. When it tries financial penalties, it speeds up Brix country and China moves towards alternative financial systems, and so drives up Russias power with regards to Nato. Have we ever seen a country in this Anti-fragile position before? Switzerland maybe. A country who seems to gain when everyone else is losing. Magnificent thing this Russian adaptation, because European and American leadership are the "beautiful ones" from the mouse utopia experiments. They are the ones leading to the destruction of the human race. And Russia is pistol-whipping every one of these losers and its a beautiful thing, thank you Putin.
Another great concept from Taleb is an idea that goes against traditional ideas of futurism. But I'll have to hunt around for the right terminology so that will be the follow up post in this thread.

Its Taleb's spin on "The Lindy Effect" Thats the phrase I was looking for. I want to be looking at the Lindy Effect, with regards to rail, the diesel engine, water phase change for generating electricity and mechanical power, canals, swales, check dams and so forth. I can't really see the diesel engine being superseded and made redundant. The diesel engine is just too awesome. Its worthwhile thinking about just what it would take to make the diesel engine obsolete. Man that would be something. Think of what it would take to make the diesel engine obsolete in its entirety? I mean really think about it. Actually those are the sort of investments we would need. But unless we can use electricity in space stations, the size of Phobos (which incidentally was once a space station) ...... Unless we can use space based electricity utilisation, to actually manufacture vast quantities of helium 3, and then have small helium 3 engines everywhere ...... that aside I see no prospect of the diesel engine EVER becoming obsolete.
Policy should be based on taking care of the downside and letting the upside take care of itself. Thats what Trump as a young man preached with regards to making money. Policy should be based on what we know now about technology. Not about any fantasy about what may happen in the future. To make policy without thinking about centuries long policies to make gigalitres of diesel, millions of miles of rail track , hundreds of thousands of canal miles, tens of thousands of miles of tunnels ......... ALL DEBT FREE ..........This is negligent policy.
I'll try and find the best video on the Lindy Effect.

This one is good enough. On the first Catallaxy I was always trying to explain why the idea of the SINGULARITY was a stupid cult idea and it was very difficult to explain. Where do you start? If someone was so divorced from the real world that they went along with the madness of the Metal Guru Kurzweil, then it was very hard to bring them up to speed. So a person who reads Kurzweil and gets carried away with his ideas ...... Its very hard to get them to come on board with centuries long projects to put flat rail all over the place, hydrate the continents, and get as much supertanker capable canal mileage as can possibly be engineered with a horizon of millennia. The Lindy effect is a small part of trying to get such people up to speed.

Bird, are you a shiraz, in front of the open fire with Maggie Beer brie, quince paste and duck liver pate type of guy or a twisties and 4X type of bloke?

I like beer. So I'm 4X there. I particularly like that deeply sentimental commercial that goes "I can feel a 4X coming on." It can be sang with as much or as little emotion as you choose. You could potentially get Prince to sing it with tears rolling down his eyes. But when I was making good money I must confess that I did go in for duck liver pate. Simply because liver is so nutrient dense. And I do believe in eating nutrient dense gear. But I'm too poor for anything like that right now. I'm being persecuted by the deep state so I am blocked from getting a high paid job.

"I'm being persecuted by the deep state so I am blocked from getting a high paid job."
You sound like a pussy. In your mind, who is "the deep state"?

To explain what the deep state is can get you tossed off any website because there is an ethnic slant to it. Bloody Namibians. But its really a hereditary oligarchy, not subject to downward mobility, that turns evil. Like the "beautiful ones" in the mouse utopia experiments. It appears that without having environmental stresses of a type that would have the average woman giving birth to maybe 7 babies and only an average of three of these living to adulthood ..... what tends to happen is the buildup of degeneracy. One of my twitter handles was "the egalitarian eugenicist" since I tended to emphasise the idea of downward mobility in the gene pool, whereas a lot of people want to talk about upward mobility. One key to European success before the era of banking was downward mobility as a result of primogeniture. Younger born sons of the elite were constantly being forced down into the middle classes. But once usurious banking came along, staying rich, once you were too rich, became too easy and so the gene pool stagnates. Now its gone so far that all these elites are actually trying to murder everyone.

The persecution is the vaccine mandates. You don't usually get fired for not having a vaccine. But what if you were between jobs when that guillotine went down? So while there is not a total prohibition on unvaccinated workers, right now if you go for a job they ask you if you are vaccinated. The ban on you might not be total. But in my case its so far enough to relegate me to minimum wage work. So it may be subtle but its a very real persecution. Otherwise the deep state wouldn't have been able to get so many millions dead and injured with their current shenanigans.

The Deep State are now wealth destroyers. Rather than merely wealth accumulators.
