One of the most horrendous polly speak statements I ever heard was when then PM Gillard, and you would have to look it up, gave a measure of the success of "her" governing by the then record number of bills and regulations that had been passed by the Parliament!
Now I'm not actually singling out former PM Gillard because they all play the numbers game and she was correct.
That's their job - to pass new laws or amend existing laws.
Forget their electoral promises and measure them by the laws they pass.
Repeal is a dirty word!
And who consumes the product of the various Parliaments - why its the Bureacracy/Government itself.
Every bureaucrat is an essential worker and every law that is passed increases the Business of Government.
A veritable perpetual motion machine.
Someone might like to try and determine how many active laws and regulations we actually have on the books.
