Just a quick thought. We have many ex cats here, or are in the process of coming here, but there are many who are not in the know regarding this forum. Some, without sounding aloof, should not find out about it. In general, I mean numbers, and Monty and those of that Ilk. It's always good to see how the other side think, and to not insulate ourselves from an argument, but do you agree, that in these strange times, the less the left know about this the better? Let's not put out the welcome mat. It would be good if the Cat gets up and running again, that we do not mention this forum. Well just yet anyway.
How do you guys feel about that, and how does the administrator feel about that? Just a suggestion, although I can't see it working beyond a week, is it worth a go?

I'm inclined to agree with you @mister Struth to You
I would prefer to see thoughts and ideas from everyone being bolted into some sort of a comprehensive whole.
Nothing wrong with "yeah, but what about" comments but negativity for point scoring wont cut it as far as I'm concerned.

Quite agree Struth. I got told about this place by email, and I'll pass it onto a few cats. Definitely not numbers!😊

I would like to know who the other admin is and some assurance email addresses aren't given out unless permission is granted.

Apologies that it wasn't explained but it is I, NoFixedAddress ( denishardiman@hotmail.com ), which is my real name and the photograph in my Avatar is really me though it was taken in Melbourne just prior to heading out to Flemington to watch and back Makybe Diva win her 3rd Melbourne Cup on 1/11/2005 - 15 years ago!
I actually 'set' the forum up at the end of October last year and did nothing with it until there was 'trouble at the mill' when Struth set up an email group within Outlook/Hotmail and it rapidly became unwieldy and I said how I had this idle forum bizo and we could perhaps use that and Struth said words to the effect "that'll do me" and here we are...
So far the whole thing has grown like topsy and I am completely open to suggestions.
I did email Sinclair to let him know what we are doing byway of a companion to Catallaxy and he emailed to say all good and I see he even became a member.
Now that postings are open again at the Cat I don't anticipate many more Stray Cats joining us here.
All that I see we are trying to do is make a spot where we can develop thoughts and ideas into some form of action planning which is not possible on The Cat.
As to your concern regarding email lists I can understand that and can only say that the thought never crossed my mind and I would certainly be horrified if our information was compromised as I am very conscious of online security and protecting my privacy and the privacy of others.
Already I have restricted certain areas of this forum to members only.
For what it is worth I trained and worked in audit, accounting, taxation and management for some high, medium and low net worth individuals and companies and it was the closest you could ever come to being a priest in the confessional. You can lie to your lawyer and even yourself but figures don't lie.
This is our private club.
Kind regards Denis NFA

The way it's set up at the moment I have the original setting up Administrator account where I do whatever forum organization changes and then I thought well I need my own personal account.
And Struth only had to say once that he would help moderate and as soon as I worked out how to make him an administrator as well he was volunteered.

Welcome bespoke, I had not a lot to do with it, just wanted some sort of back up plan, as the times called for it, and it's amazing how quick it moved , NFA has done a great job here.

Hello everyone. I just want to say hi to all who are here, and to say that I won't be commenting on Catallaxy for some time to come, if ever again. Here I'd like to express my regrets about that to those who may be worried about me and to reassure you that I am strong but not foolhardy enough to continue with something that has ended for me. For the first time in ten years I didn't comment on Anzac Day which was something of a wrench: my maternal grandfather was a Tommy in World War One, taken prisoner of war by the Turks, spending 2 years in a hell-hole prison camp, which left him a broken man. Now I can drop in here from time to time for an occasional comment at key times, which will help.
I've loved the Cat. It has been a big part of my life for ten years, during which the Cat has changed and so have I. I started commenting in rather an arch persona there in the manner I was commenting on Bunyip's site, where that exemplar of words really got me going. Everyone thought I was younger than I am and as that was a good disguise (my husband did have a very senior position at that time where lefties would have crucified him) I kept the ruse going. In fact, I'm not much different in person as an older soul; somehow I think I never really did grow up properly, so I am sorry if people took me the wrong way, as some clearly did. I will defend myself though and say the last thing I know I am is the status-seeking big-noting nightmare type of person that was unfairly constructed for me, becoming the prism through which my comments were then lampooned in a constant barrage. I tried forever, for years, to get Johanna to desist, as she led that perception which to be fair others also had, and in the past year it really became all too much for me to write off as humour, although I tried to do so often. The comments on the 17th and 18th April did me in emotionally, bringing up post-traumatic issues, and I knew, as did my husband Michael, that the Cat OF was no longer a place for me. I don't think it could ever be so again. So it is good to have somewhere to tell friendly people how much I will miss you, and to say too that it is in my best interests to keep away from all blogging now and concentrate of a busy life and perhaps some writing.
I would never have published anything if it wasn't for the Cat and some encouragement I received there. Some may see my written stuff as something the world may well have done without, but I am persevering with further attempts at various things, including more on King Arthur. In June, so the editor tells me, Quadrant Magazine will be publishing the tale of our recent travels in the time of Corona in the US. That's my side of things, already told to some extent on the OF of the Cat, to howls of rage for the most part. I hope Quadrant readers are more circumspect; we shall see.
My publication on King Arthur has received some interest from Oxford University academics, and praise from Bernard Cornwell, whose novels I am avidly using as bedtime reading; go figure, is this deflecting? - they are blood and guts galore in the 9th century. The Series 4 of 'The Last Kingdom' (based on these novels of Uhtred, any C9th girl's dreamboat) is now up on Netflix. Start at Series 1 and that sets the mood. It is excellent loin-girding for the Battles of Catallaxy for those who still engage there. I think Denis and Struth are to be congratulated for offering the possibility of a better experience here.

Arky did once email me, years ago, to suggest starting a site for Cats where all our poor efforts at writing prose and poetry could be presented, not for brutal tearing apart, but for constructive responses. I said I was too busy to organise that, and still am so, but I am thinking that this site would be an ideal place to do that, if others would like to kick this off. I have a couple of things (some bad poetry, a too-long 'short' story, lol) I have written which could be put up for that at some stage, should others start to do that first (I won't lead the way here). It seems a shame to me that the world of creative journalism and writing in general seems to belong mainly these days to the left in their funded protectorates; yet there are so many intelligent writers on the Cat (looking at Helen and some others in particular) who could present the world from a much more nuanced and experienced perspective. This place could be a sort of training ground.
How can stuff be loaded up here? Do we just copy and paste large slabs written in Word?
Having just joined, I am still very unfamiliar with how this site works. Lizzie Beare
We've just spent a great afternoon nattering with old friends 30km away meeting in person at last. Let this Covid19 over-reaction end soon!!

We are all still learning so if you find any neat ways of doing something please let us know in the suggestions thread.
I have set up a dedicated Individual Members section which at the moment is not open for Guest viewing and only visible to registered members but that can be changed if you want.
Your spot can be found at,

I have taken the liberty of copying your last 2 posts so you can see where it is located.
When you Create a Thread, which is on the right hand side you can fill in a title for your thread and then compose your post in the space provided finishing by selecting Create Post which is in the bottom right corner.
This system allows you to edit your posts which you can do by selecting the post again and you will see an Edit button to select on the upper right of your post.
You can copy and paste from Word if you want but be aware that the forum editor doesn't necessarily handle much more than conventional formatting.
There are some tips and suggestions in the Administration section and the Help section at the top covers the different aspects but if you are not sure on how to do something then send a message or leave a note here.
Enjoy and always nice to hear your comments.
