Nice to see an actual news story about the Davos elites (CP, 24/5) and to know they're not an invention of tin foil hat conspiracy theorists after all. Skye, Machans Beach
When I was voting I heard a greens voter ask a Katter worker when they'd phase out coal. The Katter bloke said never because what we do doesn't matter when China opens a new coal power plant every 7 to 10 days. The greens voter said that what China did doesn't matter. In other words, he seemed to think that global warming wasn't global. JS, Edge Hill
Albo, you have no mandates as you didn't campaign for change. Renewables investor Simon Holmes a Court says it was a climate change election but it wasn't because you didn't campaign on that and you lost in 2016 and 2019 when you did. Bridget Trinity Beach
Now that Labor is in power at both state and federal level, crime in Cairns will stop overnight. You just wait and see. Jill, Kanimbla
I can't understand why people think the teal deep-greens represent a change in all Australian views when they're there because the LNP adopted net zero, thereby convincing gullible inner-city types that they should vote for whoever will get them to net zero quicker. It was a spectacular own goal by the LNP. The inner-city gullibles will suffer most when the lights go out. Barry, Parramatta Park
Andrew, texts 24/5, there is net zero technology, it's 71 years old, used by 32 countries and called 'nuclear'. It's your mob that blocks it in favour of wind and solar that never prevents the emissions that went into making it and always makes power prices rise. What a shame that your mob wouldn't know facts if they bit you. Sharon, Manoora
Ha ha ha - monkeypox is spread by bumsecks (24/5). It's literally the new AIDS. Trevor, Brinsmead
Just wondering, why aren't conservative writers allowed in the letters column any more? Is that a local decision or does it come from head office? There's at least seven well-known local names I never see there any more. Davina, Bungalow
If someone can figure out where flu went during the covid years they could possibly figure out how to send it back there. Mike, Westcourt
All the best with your future endeavours, Chris Calcino, and I just want to point out that as a conservative the only time I hurt your feelings was by showing you facts that differed from your beliefs. That caused you the mental anguish we call cognitive dissonance, but as an adult you're responsible for your own feelings. Higgs, Tolga
The more disconnected from nature an electorate is, the more likely it is to vote for the watermelon parties. Juss Sayen, Cairns

According to the old roadside sign, Cloncurry was 53.1 on January 16, 1889. On June 7, 1935, the temperature in Hyderabad, India, was 51.1 C and that was reported in Hobart's 'The Mercury' newspaper on June 8, 1935. On June 14, 1966, 'The Canberra Times' reported 48.9 C in Calcutta. But despite the past being hotter and the cooling trend since then, the teals, Greens, Labor and Liberal are all determined to get rid of cheap electricity and supercharge the cost of living. Why do they hate us so much? Patrick, Kuranda
Phillip Musumeci (25/5), did you read Rita Panahi (25/5)? "Given the energy crisis in Europe, including the UK, where net zero policies and the transition towards a low carbon economy have seen prices soar to astronomic levels – and that was before Russian’s invasion of Ukraine exacerbated the problem further – the Coalition could’ve run a powerful campaign on why prices and reliability are more important than emission targets." When the lights go out you Greens will need a secure hiding place. Leon, Kanimbla
All these people who grew up with air conditioning and think that ordinary midday heat is global warming are in for a rude shock when they can no longer afford to run their air conditioners due to spiking power prices. Tony, Gordonvale
Phillip Musumeci (CP, 25/5). The Australian Energy Market Operator data dashboard at 6.40 am today showed the wholesale price of electricity in Qld was $373.97 per megawatt-hour - about ten times what it was before renewables entered the market. Just last year it was only $87.00 per megawatt-hour. The more renewables in the market the less money for coal to maintain its machinery the higher the electricity price goes. Householder, Cairns
Funny how people see things entirely differently. Marjorie Paterson's list of her four best PMs are on my list of the six worst PMs - along with Whitlam and Gillard. Margaret, Edge Hill
Why the heck doesn't James Cook University want the James Cook statue? Baffled, Cairns
