Mike O'Connor (CP, 17/05) that was your most informative and politically balanced column to date. I was hoping you'd conclude with the only logical call to action - that voters need to put the major parties last. The Labor and Liberal oligopoly have created this economic disaster and are clearly incapable of repairing it. At this point, randomly selected members of the taxpaying public would do a better job. Economist, Cairns
Neither Liberal or Labor have a plan to either help new homeowners into the market or to save existing homeowners from losing their properties as the government debt binge forces inflation and interest rates up. The United Australia Party does have a valid plan to address these issues and is advertising its heart out trying to communicate that message. However, for some unfathomable reason, the commentariat only wants to talk about Liberal and Labor. Ancient Steve, Redlynch
There are three problems with Ergon (17/5). One is the rabid ETU brainwashing its staff. Another is the lazy and incompetent management appointed by government mates. The third and biggest is the lack of competition. Juss Sayen, Cairns
I forget who said it, but somebody here described the ALP and LNP as two cheeks of the same bum. It was probably the most accurate, um, analogy, ever. Trevor, Brinsmead
"Teen crash deaths in spotlight" - If you want to make the response to something really expensive and ineffective, you just need to hand all responsibility to a remote and disconnected government entity with little to no personal accountability. IOW, more government always makes things worse. Judy, Earlville
Looking at the front page photo of Warren Entsch I noticed he looks just like my old granddad did at the point where his dementia was setting in. Mental decline in the elderly is one reason why they're not highly sought after by employers, so why would voters want to re-employ old Warren? Mark, Redlynch

Most people don't know this, Reece (18/5), but electric cars have been around longer than petrol cars. They remain unattractive to buyers because battery chemistry simply cannot compete with hydrocarbon fuel chemistry. Mechanic, Smithfield
There's no such thing as changing gender (CP, 18/05). People are born with either XX (female) or XY (male) chromosomes. There are extremely rare exceptions but those so afflicted are not political activists. Those promoting transgenderism would once have been the inmates of special institutions. Rafe, Westcourt
The short sentence I'll use most in the coming months is "I tried to tell you". One Tooth Wally, Cairns North
The only way to restore the CBD to vitality is to return it to the layout our far-sighted original city planners envisaged. Every "improvement" since then has created the problems we now see. Cecily, Ravenshoe
There's no surprise to avocados being dumped and then in short supply and expensive (18/5). It's a pattern that is repeating in every western country and it is driven by the WEF globalists who want an unelected global government and for us to "own nothing and be happy." Juss Sayen, Cairns
Bryan Peach (Letters, 18/5). It is not incumbent on governments to provide food and shelter for all their people. That is each individual's responsibility. The governments are responsible only for providing a stable system within protected borders to enable their people to achieve those ends. Mitchell, Aeroglen
"$150m marine hub splash" - I'm beginning to loathe the Brisbane and Canberra squandermonkies who "splash" cash they're borrowing in our names to bribe us into voting for them. That is completely unacceptable. Rebel, Cairns
What better way to drive up reports of DV and drive down the profits businesses need to grow than to mandate 10 days per year of DV leave? And who the heck are the "Fair Work Commission" to be writing and implementing legislation? Don't we elect politicians for that? When do we vote for the members of the FWC? Sounds like another useless organisation that needs to be eliminated. Yvonne, Edmonton
The shortage of nurses and the high demand for ED services are both the result of the government's vaccine mandates - and people are gradually realising this fact. This won't end well for those currently in power. Ellen, Kanimbla
Not only are Aussies waking up to the reality that Covid-19 was never the dreadful disease that lock-stepped governments around the world declared it to be, we're waking up to the tremendous stream of lies that went into it, the side effects of the vaccines, and that they were an attack on the immune systems of billions of people. We are going to need a Covid Nuremberg. Carl, Forrest Gardens
Phillip Musumeci, why don't you Greens ever mention the $54 billion we've spent "kick-starting" 30 year old renewable technology, which still only provides 8% of our electricity, and then only when the sun is shining and wind is blowing? We could have had 54 cheap and reliable power stations for that price. Jason, Manoora
