Did Goliath the crocodile get to choose from all eleven Leichhardt candidates? Or did he only get to choose from the two old mates parties who seem to control the entire media? I reckon if he'd had the chance, he'd have chosen some fresher meat than the past-expiry offerings of the Libs and Labs. Ruth, Smithfield
In ancient Rome it was bread and circuses that were used to distract the great unwashed from the important issues. In Cairns in 2022 it's new service stations and rectangular stadiums. Colour me stroppy, but we need to be talking about the criminals in our parliaments before we re-elect them to wreak further havoc on our families and our society. Alina, Kanimbla
Mike O'Connor (11/5) is right in that neither Albo or ScoMo can do what needs to be done to grow the economy - they're both prisoners of the industrial strength lunacy that afflicts elites. However, the economy can be grown to keep the luxury programs we have and to clear the ALP-LNP debt bubble to head off inflation and spiking interest rates. The only party that has a rational plan to restore our freedom and to grow our economy and fix the ALP-LNP's economic disaster is actually running real candidates in every seat but is considered a "minor party" and therefore unworthy of media attention. They are the United Australia Party. Economist, Cairns
Buried on page 17 is "House prices to tumble". When that happens many homeowners will owe more than their house (their security) is worth and banks will foreclose. The Liberal and Labor parties have no plan to prevent that - only the United Australia Party does, as described in the second item in Craig Kelly's letter on page 9. Homeowner, Cairns
Great to see Michael Gunner gone and people clamouring for the resignation of Dan Andrews. Hopefully Queen Palaszczuk will get the skids under her soon, too. None of the covid-era criminals deserve anything but jail time. Longy, Cairns
For those of us who know that there is no viable alternative to the various forms of hydrocarbon fuels to run the advanced economy we all rely on, service stations are very beautiful and satisfying facilities of enormous benefit to the community. Truckie, Smithfield
Greenies and climate alarmists are a misinformed cult, Michael Henderson and Peter Gillman (CP, 10/5). Go ahead and name just one scientific research paper that definitively links coal burning to increased temperature and changed weather patterns. I'll wait. Over-It, Cairns
Why do people keep calling the teal Climate-200 candidates "independent". They're not, they're an unregistered party backed by renewables subsidy harvester billionaire, Simon Holmes a Court. Jac, Innisfail
Former Chief Scientist Tim Flannery used to be a really noisy bloke. We never hear from him now that the dams are full and the rivers are running and the billions of dollars of unused desalination plants are rusting away. Juss Sayen, Cairns
The unseasonal rain (CP, 11/05) is a result of the recent Tonga volcanic eruption. It was an underwater eruption which instantly converted many cubic kilometres of seawater into electrically charged vapour and sent it up through the troposphere and stratosphere and into the mesosphere. As these charged vapour particles circle the earth and drift back down they seed clouds and trigger rain events. If BOM hadn't spent so much time trying to pin temperatures to carbon dioxide they'd know this, too. Weather Watcher, Trinity Beach
"Killer flu is on way to Queensland" (CP, 11/5). I'm completely over the scaremongers in high positions trying to frighten the gullible into taking highly profitable injections. How about they tell us where flu was hiding during the covid years. Marion, Atherton
People are mad voting early (CP, 11/5). It's far better to keep the political puppets guessing until election day. The exit polls at early voting allow the puppets to change their act according to sentiment and to hide their true colours. Gerardine, Woree
All NAPLAN does is teach school communities to pass NAPLAN tests. Centralised programs like NAPLAN have a place in China and the old USSR, but not in Australia. Melanie, Freshwater
