Why is there a "sense that wealth and privilege is associated with the right and conservative values" among youth? (CP, 7/5). The world's richest and most privileged elites are almost all left wing, while a large percentage of the poorest working class people in all countries have conservative values. What the heck are schools and unis teaching these youths? Helen, Cooktown
The Premier probably doesn't know this but the heavy rain is a product of the recent Tonga volcanic eruption. It was an underwater eruption which instantly converted many cubic kilometres of seawater into electrically charged vapour and sent it up through the troposphere and stratosphere and into the mesosphere. As these charged vapour particles circle the earth and drift back down they trigger rain events. If BOM hadn't spent so much time trying to pin temperatures to carbon dioxide they'd know this, too. Weather Watcher, Trinity Beach
Alright then, Lucas (CP, 7/5), go ahead and explain why, if natural disasters are becoming more regular and damaging, that we had no cyclones this season. I'll wait. Mariner, Portsmith
Why did the Chinese apartment block collapse? Was it the poor quality of Chinese steel? Or their habit of cutting corners? How thoroughly have we checked the apartment blocks Chinese investors have built here using imported Chinese materials? Unit Dweller, Cairns
As Steve of Redlynch said last week, crime by youths has become a profitable rite of passage in some quarters. The Labor state govt could fix it at the stroke of a pen, but they won't because dividing the community and making us feel unsafe is their priority. That is so we agree to an increase in govt power over those of us who aren't criminals - (criminals will always ignore such laws anyway). Both major parties stink and it's time to give some new players a run on the field. At this stage, they literally cannot be worse. Mick, Aeroglen
Fran Clayton, when you speak of politicians with vague, warm thoughts, you're speaking about Albo, right? The Gaffer, Smithfield
Malcolm "The Miserable Ghost" Turnbull likes renewables billionaire Simon Holmes a Court's extreme left "independents". I feel so vindicated. I always said Turnbull was an extreme left infiltrator in the Liberals. JS, Edge Hill
Scoobie - Trinity Beach. If you want better coverage of the candidates who are not Labor, Greens, Liberal or Socialist you'll need to take it up with the editor of the paper. Mario, Babinda
"Rise hurts hip pocket" (CP, 07/05). While it's cashed up southerners buying houses now, when the defaults start from excessive interest rates, high inflation and contraction of the productive economy putting people out of work, it will be foreigners - particularly corporations - buying up our houses. Just in time for their Great Reset. You will own nothing and you will be happy, comrades. MW, Redlynch
The Greens plan to end negative gearing will cause investors to sell their houses to owner-occupiers, which will remove them from the rental market and force more people into homelessness. Their plan to tax Australia's 100 or so billionaires will cause them to pack up and move overseas. By "subsidies to fossil fuel companies" they're talking about the tax concession for off-road vehicles. Ending those will simply force up the price of petrol, diesel and gas. The Greens policies are so anti-Australia it's as if they work for China. Edward, Smithfield
Lucas (7/5) "climate change" as spun by the left is most definitely fake news - because all the climate does is change. Before you mob settled on that term you tried "the coming ice age", "global warming", "global heating", and "the climate emergency". You've been the 'Boy Who Cried Wolf' since the 1970s - now please shut up, we're sick of your nonsense. History Guy, Freshwater
