Cheeses swept. How often does this have to be spelled out? The following is a comment lodged at the above link. I have no idea if it will be posted.

Fake News
The legislation for this was passed passed by the HoR on 24 February 2021 and ratified by the Senate on 17 March 2021. It is called the online Safety Act 2021. It has been in development since July 2015 when it was originally legislated as the Enhancing Online Safety Act 2015. A separate, companion bill was also passed at the same time last year - The Online Safety (Transitional Provisions and Consequential Amendments) Act 2021.
While all this has been going on most of the staff at ACMA - over 400 of them - have quietly been transferred to the new department, the eSafety Commission - (eSafety.gov.au). This department now already has all the powers that are claimed in the article are going to be introduced.
All of this has been implemented here in Oz by one person - Julie Inman Grant - who is now our eSafety Commissioner. Ms Grant is formerly a Senior Management Executive at Microsoft. From 2008 to 2012 she transferred to Barak Obama's advisory team. Then she went back to Microsoft until 2013 when she transferred to Twitter, then a one man operation with 60,000 subscribers. Under Ms Grant's guidance Twitter grew to the multi billion dollar behemoth it is today.
In 2015 Ms Grant started operations in Australia. The original version of the Online Safety Act was passed under PM Tony Abbott, various development versions were passed under PM Malcolm Turnbull, and it was finalised under PM Morrison. Craig Kelly, now leader of Clive Palmer's UAP, plus Pauline Hanson and Malcolm Roberts of One Nation, all voted in favour of this legislation, every step of the way.
Ms Grant has been paid tens of millions of dollars in stock options in Microsoft, Twitter and Amazon for her efforts here, setting this up. By her own admission Australia is the test bed for everywhere else.
