In an effort to clarify navigation and use of The Forum the following are my simplistic observations of the similarities and differences between CatallaxyFiles.com, Quadrant.org.au and FreedomAustralia.freeforums.net and then a walk through of navigating in the FreedomAustralia.freeforums.net
Technically, both The Cat and Quadrant are based on WordPress style ‘blogs’ and FreedomAustralia is based on the BulletinBoard style of ‘blog’.
I find it easiest to mix and match terms such as Blogs/Libraries with their own style of Categories/Classifications, Threads as Books or Chapters, Thread Authors as Book or Chapter Authors and Posters as Chapter Writers or Individual Posters and classify those terms in the following manner with examples given from each ‘blog’ to illustrate the concept.
CatallaxyFiles – Free to View – Free to Comment – Authorised to Contribute a Thread/Chapter – Open Categories
Basically Catallaxy is one large book with new threads/chapters added on a daily basis by thread/chapter authors to which individual posters add their own comments with the recurring dated Open Threads an open free-form chapter whose content is determined by individual posters.
It uses a system of multiple categories allocated by either the Thread/Chapter Author or the Blog/Library Administrator. These Categories appear underlined at the bottom of each Chapter such as BlockChain, FreedomofSpeech, Economics, Politics, whatever and if you know the category they are searchable. There is a count of posters to the thread shown alongside the classifications and selecting the thread opens the posted comments and a bottom section to make your post with full access to WordPress formatting commands.
The right hand column has a very good random Liberty Quote followed in descending order a list of the 30 most Recent Comments in a <poster – thread> combination, then the 30 most Recent Posts in date order, monthly Archives back to December 2019, a Search box, a list of Pages duplicating the menu bar at the top (excluding Home) and an a-z Blogroll of links to selected worthy ‘blogs’ and at the very bottom is a global Login and information feeds.
Quadrant – Free to View – Paid Member to Comment – Authorised to Contribute a Thread/Chapter – Defined Books – Open Categories
Quadrant Online is the internet manifestation of an actual printed on paper publication that well predates the digital age and heroically still paper publishes excellent journals and absolutely depends upon paid subscribers to do that.
It uses a predetermined list of Categories that appear in red colored capitals at the top of each new Thread/Chapter which is assigned by the Library Administrator and are items such as QED or Doomed Planet and are accessible from the top menu bar generally under News & Opinion or Arts & Letters but otherwise follow the open book format of CatallaxyFiles and selecting any Thread will also display comments and a section to post a comment the same as Catallaxy.
Quadrant uses the right hand column to highlight issues and topics and promote ‘real’ books that are definitely worthy of consideration.
FreedomAustralia – Free to View – Free to Comment – Free to Contribute any Thread/Chapter – Restricted Categories
Has defined and fixed Categories allocated by the Library Administration that is fluid and currently consists of [General], [Musings for Stray Cats], [Individuals, Groups and Parties of Interest], [The Australian Political Scene], [Administration], [Legend] and [Forum Information & Statistics].
However, anyone can create a thread under any category they wish except the last 3.
To post to a thread is a matter of selecting Reply with your general comment.
To write and post a Quick Reply is to directly respond to the actual post you have just read.
Has pictorial depiction of meta tools like add an image or add a file.
