80 per cent of Israelis are fully vaccinated and 74 per cent of their covid hospitalisations are also fully vaccinated. That sure doesn't say anything good about the vaccines. Efrayim, Earlville
Democrats thought Andrew Cuomo would make a great president. Now he's been forced to resign and could conceivably end up in prison. Democrats also thought lawyer Michael Avenatti would make a great president. Now he is actually serving time. Democrats are awful judges of character. Republican, Cairns
If the Queensland government had an effective opposition they would be swarming all over the government's rubbery health advice. The LNP now seems populated by morons and leftists (BIRM). A contagious bloke drove a taxi but nobody caught it - before your mass house arrests and before your mandatory face nappies - and the LNP is all "this is fine." They must have the IQs of gherkins and the political nous of septic tanks. Cranky, Earlville
FMD, a principal lawyer and multiculuralist (CP, 12/08) wants further restrictions on free speech. Staggering. We have some of the strongest defamation (and racial vilification) laws in the world, as Louise Nillagain's ABC just learned (again)(CP, 12/08). That's all the free speech limitation we need. Give the silencers too many inches and they'll soon silence everything they disagree with. They're terrified of contrary opinions because they know deep down that their own beliefs are unsupportable. Mark W. Redlynch
Wait, what? An ABC employee (Louise Milligan, CP, 12/8) sent a defamatory tweet about Andrew Laming in her own time and from her private account. Laming sued and the judge ordered Milligan - not the ABC - to pay damages to Laming. The ABC wasn't part of the court case, but it is using taxpayers money to pay Milligan's private bill. Is this contempt of court? Even if not, it certainly shows contempt for Australian taxpayers. Sal, Mareeba
"Keeping the bastards honest" used to be a stated objective on the Australian political scene. We could do with a bit of that again now. Frustrated, Cairns
Covid 19 would be over with by now except the gene therapy vaccines are causing "antibody-dependent enhancement" (ADE), resulting in vaccinated people shedding virus variants - which are infecting other vaccinated people. What a monumental stuff-up. No wonder the drug companies needed indemnity from prosecution. Andy, Freshwater
(CP, 12/08) How in God's name have our civic, state and national leaders done such a poor job that beautiful Cairns in the bountiful 21st century should be considered among "the most disadvantaged parts of Australia?" I mean seriously - how did they manage to get policy settings so disastrously wrong that we're not the wealthiest and most advantaged place in the world? We have resources, primary and secondary industries, climate, the lot. We truly are led by some of the most incompetent politicians the world has ever seen. Sally, Westcourt
"8,000 tests analysed" - all came back negative (CP, 12/08). In 8 hours a cabbie could take 32 15-minute fares, or 320 fares in the 10 days. But none of those unmasked fares got sick. Wow. Is there really a virus? I'm starting to wonder if the virus-deniers are right. Griff, Machans Beach
Why do people move to Cairns and/or build houses and then seem shocked when there's suburban infill and better road connections become necessary? Some of these whingers have no sense of self-awareness whatsoever. Caroline, Trinity Park
One of the first thing totalitarians do when they get control of a government is strip freedom from law-abiding citizens and increase police powers. And that's what the NSW Premier just did. The ALP, Libs, Nats, Grns are all one party now - "The People's Democratic Republic of Australia Party," comrades, and they now rule us as a dictatorship. Agnes, Babinda
Speaking as a former public servant, the CCC (12/8) would need to triple its staff to investigate the fraudulent behaviour in the senior executive service ranks in the public sector. But that class is immune to laws and instead the CCC will settle for prosecuting entry-level hacks who take a biro home. Leticia, Bungalow
Jeannette Young (CP 21/8). Why haven't you disclosed that your husband Professor Graeme Nimmo was on a Pfizer board? You cast a lot of doubt on AstraZeneca without disclosing that link. If we can't trust you on vaccines we can't trust you on masks. Davos Dave, Cairns
Next time I go on a bbq I'm gonna wear a mask to keep the viruses out, a tinfoil hat to keep the conspiracy theories out and a chicken wire shirt to keep the mosquitoes out. What? It'll work! Experts all agree. Woz, Parramatta Park
How many people were in the infected taxi driver's cab and how many did he pass the disease to? I can't find it online - can the newspaper hit up a CHHHS spokesperson, please? If the answer is zero then why all the Covid/Delta fuss? Tina, Palm Cove
Townsville, Magnetic Island, Mareeba and Cairns all had Delta carriers roaming around - but nobody else caught it. Are the tests dodgy or is the whole saga some sort of government delusion? Tracie, Westcourt
How can Prince Andrew be accused of the "rape of a child" (CP, 12/08) when the complainant was not a child at the time of the alleged offense. She admits she was 17, and therefore over the age of consent (CP, 11/08) in the relevant jurisdictions. Higgs, Tolga
What's the point of a fancy and expensive Esplanade dining precinct? Climateers claim it'll soon be under rising seas. But anyway, the Branch Covidians have eaten the Climateers' lunch and their panicdemic will kill the Esplanade eateries before the seas get there. Herman, Yorkeys Knob
Aunty, Yorkeys Knob (12/8). You could have gone to see dying father, but you chose to bow to tyranny instead. You cannot comply your way out of tyranny. Chloe, Kuranda
Nick Dalton (CP, 12/08). I've outlined a plan for a four-part infrastructure project that includes a tunnel to the Tablelands that actually pays for itself. I repeat, at the end of the project there'd be no net cost to taxpayers. This plan has benefits for managing growth, reducing emissions and improving the mangrove environment, too. And no properties would require resumption. Politicians hate it because there's too few options to divert taxpayers money to their friends and donors. PC, Tolga
We've now seen superspreaders roam Townsville, Mareeba and Cairns without spreading covid. Is it highly infectious and very deadly or not? The Cairns Post is failing to connect the dots. Why? Who is controlling your right to report self-evident facts? Spiro, Mareeba
When it comes to being silenced on climate change, Stella Martin (12/8) that "honour" goes to the sceptics. The always-wrong IPCC got the front page of most newspapers and news shows with its latest round of rubbish - sceptics are never given that sort of exposure, even though we can prove the IPCC is wrong with actual physics and real maths. Marty, Manoora
Lionel, Stella (CP, 12/8). China has always had a flooding problem. That comes with being downstream of very tall mountains and it's why they have over 22,000 dams. It's not a new issue and nor is it changing. Bushfires burn at any air temperature. Frozen Siberia has huge bushfires in air temperatures much colder than ours. Bushfires only burn uncontrollably when fire-fuels are left to build up. Remove the fuel and there's no fire. The change there is we stopped removing the fuel because academics re-invented the long history of human forest management. Darryl, Westcourt
"US has no stronger partner: Morrison" (CP, 12/8). This would've been heartening had Morrison said that during Trump's term, but Biden is merely a frontman for far-left/Chinese interests. Morrison is the worst prime minister we've ever had and, like Turnbull, he'd have been a better fit in the ALP. Joanne, Manunda
